Q: You’re a dope singer, but your tracks are really fresh too! Who’s producing for you? Who’s responsible for making all of those wild beats?
A: I make all my own music, though I do occasionally collaborate with other producers.
Q: Oh word! What label are you signed to?
A: I’m an unsigned artist. I just work with a couple indie labels here and there to release projects.
Q: Oh wow… so that means when people bootleg your stuff you DO actually feel it, huh?
A: Yeah, it’s kinda wack. I’m not part of some big budget machine that is just throwing money at marketing and promotion to push a million cds down your throats. The labels I’ve worked with are tiny, they just have done a really good job of making me look as good as they think i sound.
Q: So what would you tell someone who’s downloading your music right now?
A: That I quit my job to make music for a living so if they’re not going to directly support my efforts by purchasing music or coming to a show I’d appreciate it if they’d at least tell someone they care about to check me out. Word of mouth goes a long way.
Q: Dang! Ok so… where can I buy your music?
A: Well you can get it a bunch of places. If you visit the online shop on this site, you can purchase stuff there as well as view list of websites and shops that carry my music.
Q: Cool, but do you have any free music I check out before I start spending.
A: Sure, there’s tons! You can listen to music on myspace.com, last.fm, and imeem.com. Also if you’re a registered user to this site you can download tons of tracks from the treats page.
Q: Rad! So um… how can I book you for my festival, batmitzvah, wedding, baby shower etc?
A: For booking inquiries please visit the contact page on this website and write to the attention of management/booking. Be sure to include all the pertinent details (ie. date you’re trying to book, location, budget, etc.)
Q: How much would you charge to perform if I provide the DJ?
A: Yeah, I don’t deal with any of that stuff. Please refer back to my last answer. Oh and, FYI… I no longer book DJ lead performances. It’s Muhsinah & The Capricorns or bust, sorry.
Q: Gotcha. So why haven’t Muhsinah & The Capricorns played in *insert major city* yet?
A: Scheduling conflicts aside, it’s probably because the criterium necessary for booking us hasn’t been met there yet. We 3 can’t just show up to places with smiles on our faces and hope for the best. We’d be a sad, broke bunch if we did.
Q: Well how does it work then? How can I help get you booked in my city?
A: You can start by making a demand for me on eventful. Spreading the word about me and my music amongst your friends helps too. As I said before… word of mouth goes a long way. Also, when you can tell your local promoter to look me up.
